Ten Tri-Lakes baseball players named stars | News, Sports, Jobs
Ten Tri-Lakes baseball players were recognized for their success by being selected to their respective league all-star teams this season.
Tupper Lake, which plays in the X Division, has two players named to the Watertown Daily Times All-North Baseball Team. The Lake Placid and Saranac Lake baseball teams, which both play in Division VII, have had four each in the Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference and Champlain Valley Athletic Conference, respectively.
Youth prevailed for the Lumberjacks this season, as sophomore Griffin Shaheen was named to the All-North First Team for the designated hitter position, while teammate Karter Kenniston, a freshman, received a honorable mention.
According to the Watertown Daily Times, Shaheen has been solid from the plate this season, hitting four home runs. As Kenniston dominated from the mound, picking up a win in the Section X Championship Game to help Tupper Lake win its first men’s baseball championship since returning to the Section before the 2005-06 school year.
Although the Lake Placid baseball team was unable to win the Division VII Class C title, they were able to win the MVAC league title.
JJ Ledwith, Vann Morelli and PJ Colby of the Blue Bombers were named Division II All-Stars, while Jarrett Mihill received Honorable Mention. Lake Placid head coach Brian Brandes was also named MVAC Coach of the Year.
Ledwith, a catcher, led the Blue Bombers in hits and stolen bases this season. From the mound, Colby was strong leading his team with the most strikeouts and the lowest ERA. Freshman college baseball players Mihill and Morelli combined for 30 hits.
Team Red Storm was represented by Cedar Rivers, Ben Clark and Kaden Darrah as CVAC Division II stars while Brady Roberts was an honorable mention.
The nomination marked the second year in a row that Rivers, Clark and Roberts have received star honors.
While all four Saranac Lake players had a solid season, the team itself had a season of ups and downs that ended early after a first-round loss in the Class VII playoffs. B.
The team will bring back Rivers, Darrah and Roberts next season.
