Mount Union’s Mazza, Gallant and Smith recognized by baseball coaches

Three Mount Union baseball players have been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association’s Middle East region team.

Zack Mazza, a sophomore from Flint, Mich. Who started all 41 games at centerfield for the Purple Raiders, led the Ohio Athletic Conference with 13 home runs. He was also among the conference leaders in shot percentage (first, .738), total number of goals (second, 121), hits (third, 64) and RBI (sixth, 42). He was also named to the All-OAC tournament team.

Gallant, of Pataskala, was second in the OAC in strikeouts with 76 in a conference-top 75 innings as he was 6-2 with an earned-run average of 2.99. His six wins were the fifth best in the conference and his 2.99 earned run average was sixth. Gallant was also selected to the OAC tournament team.

Davis of Louisville was second in the OAC with eight wins, fourth with 65 strikeouts. The senior averaged 3.38 earned runs in 74.2 innings and led the OAC with four full games.

All three players were also selected to the Ohio Athletic Conference First Team and led Mount Union to an overall record of 28-13. The Purple Raiders finished second in the OAC regular season with a 25-11 record and were second in the conference tournament.
