Braves make first appearance in NAIA’s Top 25 Baseball Coaches preseason poll

Baseball | Wed 3 Nov 2021

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Defending NAIA national champion Georgia Gwinnett takes pole position in baseball’s top 25 preseason coaches poll. Runner-up Central Methodist (Mo.) remains second, Southeastern (Florida) moves up to third, Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) slips one spot to fourth and Tennessee Wesleyan completes the Top Five. Reinhardt (Ga.) and Bellevue (Neb.) enter the poll after going unranked late last year.

uOttawa made the program’s first appearance in the pre-season poll with 20 votes. Ottawa enters 2022 after a record-breaking season that ended with the program’s first trip to the opening round of the NAIA.

Survey methodology

The poll was voted on by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and the Association of Independent Institutions.
The Top 25 is determined by a point system based on how each voter ranks the top teams. A team receives 30 points for each vote for first place, 29 for second place and so on in the list.
The highest and lowest ranking of each team (a non-scoring is considered a low rating) is deleted and the ranking of the team will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for each ballot (including including reduced ballots) on which the teams appear.
Teams that receive only one point on the ballot are not considered “receiving votes”
The frequency of polls is bi-weekly. This policy was approved by the National Administrative Council (NAC) prior to the 2016-17 college season. This change allows reviewers to consider more work between review periods.
